playing catch up

still keeping things moving! just been lazy with posts. i figured i would do a blast of pics to keep you up to date. first off, i had the honor to be the portrait subject for an amazing artist and friend Aristides Ruiz. Art (for short) is currently based in NYC and is FIERCE with watercolor, ballpoint pen and anything else you put in front of him. the portrait was included in a group show at Lyons Wier Gallery, NY that will be up until Aug 11th. i also just cut down the stretcher bars i used for a recent commission and made a 57x72 canvas. i'm hoping to complete it for my solo show in Sept. the other pics are of some recently completed and in progress works.

grinding

i'm still here painting away. working toward my solo show in September at Beals and Abbate Fine Art. Also some works for Silver Queen Fine Art in Utah, shipped a piece off to Breeze Block Gallery in Portland OR for an upcoming group show and just did a piece for another group traveling show called The Great West Coast Migration. its about raising awareness for sharks. pretty awesome line up. i also recently shipped that large commission off to London. all this and i still have those moments of getting down on myself for not doing enough. such goes the path. back to work!

some more finished and in progress works in the studio at the moment. the only one finished is the small mockingbird on a 10x10 panel. its going to be in a show at Breeze Block Gallery in Portland, OR in September. I hear they're going to make a book of the show too. Rad! the other two pieces are 36x36 in progress. back to work! (you'd think with all this work I would be able to make a living out of this stuff, hahaha)

new and gouache

new 36x36 i started on thursday. i cut out some watercolor studies i did in a sketchbook that i had while living in NY. funny how they didn't seem to have as much impact on me at the time as they do now. i'm using these as departures for some new pieces. i seem to go back and fourth with mark making that describes a leaf or flower versus just painting a flat out leaf or flower. i'm a fan of the former. it think its more interesting and sometimes more effective when you can imply or describe in a few paint strokes while leaving room to explore and keep coming back to find new things. i pulled out some gouache last night and continued where i left off with the watercolor studies. there's lots of room for exploration with these. or if anything, they're fun to do and i'll just end up with a pile of them on a shelf.
