Cuckoo

Almost finished my Yellow Beak Cuckoo this weekend. I'm sort of happy the way it turned out. The most challenging was working with Raw Umber as a base color considering its really transparent. Nonetheless, this the outcome.

worked more on this piece over the weekend. i'm starting to dig the area around the tail. pardon the glare. i also had to do a wash over the drawing of the flowers. they were competing too much so i had to knock it back a bit. 

Caracara

started working on this Caracara falcon. this type of falcon resides in the subtropical woodlands of the southwest. what's interesting is that they're part of the falcon family but live more like vultures. they tend to feed on dying flesh in addition to reptiles and rodents.

sketches

i've finally got myself sketching again. it feels great. here's some sketches i've done on the train this week, with the exception of the plant of course:) i made a homemade sketchbook with cut paper, clips and cardboard backing. it's kind of silly but it's been working very nicely for me. 

Campo Oriole

worked on this oriole last night. i'm really attracted to the contrast of the bright orange and jet black feathers, and the accents of blue too. this particular oriole resides in south america, namely brazil. they are known to stick with their own and never join mixed flocks.
